A Once-In-A-Hundred-Years

Stickley Weekend!

 

The Stickley Museum at Craftsman farms will kick off a year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of Stickley’s Log House with a very special weekend in October.  See below for details, and check back often for updates and the latest news.

 

 

Friday, October 15

 

Tour Craftsman Farms:

    Full tours depart hourly from 11:15 am to 3:15 pm. Special Tours of
recent restoration projects and new acquisitions at depart at 5 and 6 pm.

    Members free;

    Non-members $7;

    Pre-registration is required for Special Tours. Call 973-540-0311.

 

Pre-Symposium Lecture:

    Leslie M. Freudenheim will explore Joseph Worcester and the San
Francisco Swedenborgian Church and their fascinating connections to
Gustav Stickley.

    At the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms;

Symposium:

Honest & Beautiful: The Arts & Crafts Home in America presented in the Newark Museum auditorium and cosponsored by the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms. Join three leading experts as they explore the impact of
the Arts and Crafts movement and Stickley’s work on the idea of home in America. A panel discussion will conclude the program.

 

Topic: The Victorian Roots of the Arts & Crafts Movement

Speaker and host Ulysses Grant Dietz, Senior Curator and Curator of Decorative Arts, Newark Museum

 

Topic: Gustav Stickley and the Arts & Crafts Home in America

Speaker: Kevin Tucker, the Margot B. Perot Curator of Decorative Art and

Design, Dallas Museum of Art.  Tucker is the curator of the nationally touring exhibition, Gustav Stickley and the American Arts & Crafts Movement  which will be on exhibit at the Newark Museum.  This is his only east coast appearance.

 

Topic: The Artistic Furniture of Charles Rohlfs

Speaker: Joseph Cunningham, Curator, American Decorative Art 1900 Foundation, in conjunction with the exhibit of the same name opening at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on October 19, 2010.

Craftsman Homecoming Gala

The festivities continue through Saturday evening with the Craftsman Homecoming Gala at the Mountain Lakes Club.  Join John H. Bryan, Honorary Chair, and event co-chairs Ann Reynolds and Robert C. Burchell as they kick off the yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of Gustav Stickley’s iconic Log House.  The evening will include cocktails, gourmet dinner, a live and a silent auction, and dancing to the music of the Andy Sherwood Trio.  The gala’s auctioneer is David Rago, well known for his frequent appearances on Antiques Roadshow, and best known to Stickley Museum members as the recipient of the Foundation’s Als Ik Kan Award in 2000.  The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the 2010 Als Ik Kan Award to John H. Bryan.
