Description
This monumental set of fireplace tools were likely a design prototype for what would later become no. 150 based on slight differences to catalog images published later. In general the two variations share a number of similarities—the scrolled feet and horizontal top piece—but there are significant distinctions worth noting. The set at Craftsman Farms has a squared off top and no projecting finial.
The scrolled elements of this tool set derived ultimately from Stickley’s earlier fireplace tool set (no. 138, ca. 1905), which were indebted to the work of Englishmen Norman and Ernest Spittle that he showed at his exhibition of Arts and Crafts in 1903.

Provenance
Gustav Stickley (by 1911); sold with the contents of Craftsman Farms in 1917 to George and Sylvia Farny; by descent to Cyril Farny; purchased by an anonymous donor on behalf of the Craftsman Farms Foundation.
