Description

Although this model costumer was amongst the longest-produced items that Stickley manufactured (from 1904 to at least 1915), slight changes in the treatment of the base allow us to date this form with more certainty. In the first version of the form–introduced in the firm's Cabinet Work from the Craftsman Workshops: Catalogue D–the base was attached higher on the central shaft and the top of the legs featured a gentle, continuous curve that terminated with the vertical ends. The underside of the legs also formed a gentle arch. By 1912, the base took on the squatter, more angular proportions seen here with broader feet that attached lower on the central pole.
