Real acorn pull chains make a great addition to a quarter sawn oak lamp. The artisans who design and produce these lamps have roamed the forests of lower Michigan and beyond looking for trees that produce the best acorns in the fall. They return to some of the same trees every year to get the bast (the phloem or vascular tissue of a plant) and most consistant in size. The acorns are hollowed out and filled with epoxy to make them sturdy for years of use.

These real acorn pulls are available as an add-on for most lamps created and designed by Phillip Myer of Ragsdale Home Furnishings. He handcrafts these lamps in the USA from quarter-sawn white oak. This means the boards are cut at a 90-degree angle from the growth rings, which creates the beautiful striated grain pattern visible in the wood.
